1. Endgame Combat: The Fractured Archive & Hardcore Worlds

The Fractured Archive (Releasing Oct 20, 2026)

Jagex isn’t easing players into autumn—The Fractured Archive is officially slated as OSRS’s fourth major raid and what Charles calls “the hardest raid we’ve ever released.”

Positioned above ToA, CoX, and ToB in mechanical difficulty, check our detailed Old School RuneScape guides and drop rates to prepare your loadout as top PVM clans compete for world-first clears. This raid builds directly on high-level lore (requiring completion of While Guthix Sleeps) and brings new Best-in-Slot rewards into the combat triad. Expect the World First race to be a brutal trial of endurance as top PVM clans figure out prayer switches, tick-perfect positioning, and gear loadouts under pressure.

                  THE BIS TRIAD COMPLETED
---------------------------------------------------------
Melee BIS Cape ➜ Infernal Cape (The Inferno)
Ranged BIS Cape ➜ Dizana's Quiver (Fortis Colosseum)
Magic BIS Cape ➜ Tower of Xophoros Cape (Upcoming)

Hardcore Worlds (Launching Nov 4, 2026)

Unlike traditional Hardcore Ironman (HCIM) where you simply lose your red skull and become a regular main, Hardcore Worlds represent a completely new economic and social experiment:

  1. Dedicated Infrastructure: Hosted on separate, isolated servers with completely clean account banks.
  2. Open Trading & Main Economy: Trading and the Grand Exchange are enabled—meaning players can trade freely, but only with other players on the Hardcore World.
  3. One Life, High Risk: You get a single life. If you die, your character is forcibly migrated off the Hardcore server to regular standard OSRS.

This creates a terrifying economic dynamic: high-tier boss drops and raid supplies will carry absurd price tags on the Hardcore GE because obtaining them requires putting your entire account on the line. Expect the ultimate badge of honor to be clearing The Fractured Archive inside a Hardcore World.

Unlike traditional Hardcore Ironman mode documented on the Official Old School RuneScape Wiki, Hardcore Worlds feature a completely isolated fresh-start economy.

2. The Golden Gates Open: Menaphos & The True Soul Altar (Spring 2027)

For over two decades, the southern desert city of Menaphos has sat locked on the map behind impenetrable gates. In Spring 2027, that meme finally dies.

       MENAPHOS ENTRY REQUIREMENTS & FEATURES
  +-------------------------------------------------+
Prerequisite Quest ➜ Beneath Cursed Sands
Unlock Quest ➜ Fool's Gold (Master Tier)
  +-------------------------------------------------+
Key Feature 1 ➜ OSRS's 1st Skilling Dungeon
Key Feature 2 ➜ The True Soul Altar
  +-------------------------------------------------+

Unlocking the city requires completing a new Master quest, Fool’s Gold (which builds on Beneath Cursed Sands). Once inside, two massive additions await:

  • OSRS’s First Skilling Dungeon: A cooperative, non-combat dungeon designed around managing multiple non-combat skills simultaneously under time and resource constraints.
  • The True Soul Altar: Runecrafters have speculated about this since the skill’s inception. Offering the ultimate 90+ Runecrafting training option, the True Soul Altar will drastically alter high-tier craft routes and soul rune supply chains across the main economy.

3. Storyline Finales & The Mining/Smithing Rework

Storyline Finales

November 2026 has been designated Quest Month, dropping smaller, mid-level quests weekly to flesh out mid-game leveling paths. Following that, Jagex is wrapping up two legendary quest arcs:

  • The Chosen Commander (Early 2027): Concludes the Cave Goblin series in Dorgesh-Kaan, telling the Old School-specific version of Zanik’s story. It also introduces the Dorgeshuun Gasworks for new Firemaking and Crafting training methods.
  • Fairytale III: Nexus of Power (Late 2027): The most requested quest conclusion in player polls. Take on the Fairy Godfather and his Ork mafia, gain new Fairy Ring network upgrades, access a Zanaris Runecrafting overhaul, and farm a new repeatable boss: the Nexus Guardian.

The Mining and Smithing Problem

Every OSRS player knows the classic design flaw: requiring 85 Smithing to craft a Level 40 Rune Platebody makes zero sense in modern gear progression.

Recognizing this friction, Jagex announced a community-collaborative Mining and Smithing Reforging project. Moving through open player surveys and polling blogs, the project aims to fix tier scaling and restore the fantasy of crafting your own combat gear without crashing the existing high-alch gold sinks that underpin OSRS’s macro-economy.

4. Dungeons of Gielinor & The “Mage Infernal Cape”

  • Dungeons of Gielinor: A multi-tier dungeon overhaul delivering the largest single-update boss expansion in game history. Bosses range from low-level threats (like Brutus-style goblin encounters) to mid/high-tier Gemstone Dragons, culminating in a brutal Diamond Dragon boss buried under Varlamore.
  • Sailing x Diving: Teased in parallel with the upcoming Sailing skill, deep-sea diving expands to let players drop from their ships into 5 to 6 underwater dive sites with dedicated quest lines.
  • Tower of Xophoros: The final major teaser of RuneFest. Operating as an elite combat arena, the Tower will award the Best-in-Slot Magic Cape—the missing third leg of the iconic cape triad alongside the Infernal Cape (Melee) and Dizana’s Quiver (Ranged). With the Shadow of Tumeken dominating high-level Magic DPS, this new cape is set to solidify the endgame magic meta for years to come.
